- Linear Foot Calculator

This web page is available to calculate the Linear Footage of a shipment, or type of freight on a shipment.

The freight can be Pallets, Cartons or Rolls. The only special note about Rolls is that if the freight is in a rolling position, it cannot be Stacked and thus will have a Stackable number of 1. If Rolls are in a standing position, the flat side of the roll will be on the floor, and may have a Stackable number greater than one (1). Each line below acts as one size freight on an overall shipment. So if you have three (3) different pallet size, or a group of pallets and carts, etc. use a different line to enter each different size of freight.

Units: This is the number of Pallets, Cartons or Rolls of this size, each line should represent only one size of freight.
Width: The width of each Unit. Note that the width must be the actual width the pallet plus freight takes up. This means that if the Pallet is 40 inches wide, but freight hangs over the side to 44 inches, then the width must be set at 44 inches. Width must be listed in inches. The width of a trailer is based on 98 inches, as per the Linear Foot Rule in the Rules and Guidelines Menu option.
Length: The length of each Unit. As with Width, if the freight hangs over the edge of a pallet, then the length must be set to the actual longest amount the freight hangs over.
Height: The Height of each Unit. For pallets make certain to include the height of the pallet into the height. The height must be the maximum height the overall unit takes.
Stackable: This is the quantity of Units that may be stacked up in the trailer. If the freight is not Stackable (nothing can be stacked on top of it), leave the Stackable number at one (1). The maximum inside height of a trailer is 103 inches, and the Stackable number times the Height of each Unit must be less than or equal to 103 inches.
Weight: This is the Total Weight this line of freight weighs, including all Units on the line - not the weight of a single unit.
Turnable: If the freight can NOT be turned sideways in a trailer (for example, if the Unit type is a Skid), then check this box.
